This method of control and delivery of pressure-redistributing equipment is most commonly found in the hospital setting but there are also a few within primary care trusts. Birchall (2001) described the development of an equipment store across an acute trust of 1100 beds on two sites, taking two years to become fully established. The store contained a mixture of purchased and rental equipment. The cost savings from the previous ad hoc rental system covered the cost of the equipment, including maintenance and repair, cost of the staff running the store, an annual foam mattress replacement programme and a ve-year replacement programme for the alternating air mattresses. Newton (2001) found similar problems in her trust. In particular, there were problems with staff attitudes as they were careless with equipment, unwilling to share equipment with other wards, kept patients on dynamic systems for longer than necessary and tended to order rental equipment as an easy option, rather than seeking out trust-owned equipment. As a result, rental expenditure was spiralling out of control. After implementing an equipment library, Newton found a marked change in staff attitudes and a more appropriate and costeffective use of equipment. Both Birchall (2001) and Newton (2001) implemented improved education programmes for staff that covered not only the appropriate use of equipment but also how to set it up. The use of a central database is also an essential aspect of this type of service as it enables the store staff to determine the whereabouts of every piece of equipment, making it easier to monitor usage.

another fragmentary text from the Scrolls, refers to both a jubilee and a period of seventy years in the course of its review of history and prophecy of the end. In the wake of the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE, 4 Ezra and 2 Baruch continue to treat seven as a significant number, but they prefer to divide history into twelve periods. 4 Ezra places its hero halfway through the ninth period (4 Ezra 14:11 12); its readers could thus understand themselves as living much closer to the end, which fits its claim, to be discussed in the next chapter, that Rome is the kingdom represented by Daniel s fourth beast. 2 Baruch, in contrast, places the disaster Baruch is experiencing, the destruction of the First Temple, in the eleventh period (2 Baruch 67:1), so close to the end of the twelve periods as to suggest that the author is speaking over the head of Baruch to address his audience, which has recently lived through the destruction of the Second Temple. I do not know how to explain the preference for twelve over multiples of seven in 4 Ezra and 2 Baruch. But all of the schemata discussed here share the view that history is not a random succession of events with no discernible goal. Rather, though disaster may follow disaster, the course of history was long ago determined and its time measured out, and even as they wrote, the apocalyptic authors believed, it was nearing its end.

The operator alt offers a choice of behavior alternatives represented by its two operands. The chosen sd must have an explicit or implicit guard expression that evaluates to true at this point in the interaction. The operator opt designates a choice between its (sole) operand or an idle behavior. The operator par stands for the parallel merge of the behaviors of the sd acting as its operands.
